Lopen Ngima S. Sherpa was born in 1984 in Nepal, the land of the Buddha, in Dolkha District, Jiri 2 Yalung, a beautiful Himalayan paradise. As a child he completed the basic modern Nepali education. At the age of fourteen, he joined His Holiness Penor Rinpoche’s Namdroling Junior High School in Bylakuppe, South India. In 2002 after completing high school, he enrolled in the prestigious Ngagyur Nyingma institute for higher Buddhist studies, where he studied Buddhist philosophy through sutra, tantra and their commentaries, as well as Tibetan poetry and Buddhist history. In 2011 upon completing his course, he was given the title “Lopen” or master of Buddhist philosophy. 

Since he completed his graduation, he has been giving teachings at different Buddhist temples. Since 2017, he has been teaching meditation every year from July 10 to August 10 at the Palyul Retreat Center in McDonough, New York. And since 2019, Lopen has been leading as the resident teacher of the Palyul Choekhor Ling center in Erie Pennsylvania, taking full responsibility for this dharma center.
